Pieter van Vollenhoven
Pieter van Vollenhoven is the husband of Princess Margriet of The Netherlands, the brother-in-law of the immediate past monarch, Queen Beatrix and uncle of current King, King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands.
Pieter was born on April 30th 1939 to Pieter & Jacoba van Vollenhoven. The young Pieter was educated in Rotterdam and then studied law at the University of Leiden where he met his wife Princess Margriet. After graduation he worked as a legal officer for The Netherlands Council of State, and then went on to spent time in the air force where he gained a pilot's licence.
Pieter has held a number of important positions. Until 2011 he was the chairman of the Dutch Safety Board. Since 2005 he has been a professor at the University of Twente. He also began the Victim Support Fund in 1989. Van Vollenhoven is also a key member of the Society, Safety and Police Association as well as the European Transport Safety Council.
On the personal side Pieter married Princess Margriet, then the daughter of Queen Juliana of The Netherlands on 10th January 1967. They have four sons;
1). Prince Maurits (17th April 1968)
2). Prince Bernhard (25th December 1969)
3). Prince Pieter-Christiaan (22nd March 1972)
4). Prince Floris (10th April 1975)
Pieter and Margriet also have 11 grandchildren.
In his spare time Pieter van Vollenhoven enjoys playing the piano and is part of a performing trio. He still enjoys flying, and also has interest in diving. Pieter is also a keen photographer.
