Monaco

The throne of Monaco dates back to 1604 with a gap of about 50 years during the reign of Napoleon the I. The line of succession to the Monaco throne passes down in a male preference system e.g. the current monarch Prince Albert II is younger than his sister Princess Caroline of Monaco and Hanover. To be eligible for the Monegasque throne you must be a descendant of the reigning Monarch or of the reigning Monarch's siblings. If this line ends the Crown Council would choose a monarch from a more distant family member.
