Princess Caroline of Monaco and Hanover
Princess Caroline was born on January 23rd 1957 in Monaco. She was the first child of Prince Rainier III of Monaco and his wife Princess Grace of Monaco (nee Grace Kelly). Caroline was born as heiress presumptive to the throne as her father was the reigning monarch. This only lasted a year as her brother Prince Albert was born a year later. In 1965 Caroline's younger sister Princess Stephanie was born.
Princess Caroline attended school in Monaco but spent time at boarding at St Mary's School, Ascot in England. Caroline attended Sorbonne University in Paris. Princess Caroline is a keen sportsman and particularly excels at horse riding, skiing & swimming and is considered a fashion icon.
Aside from her personal interests Princess Caroline is a member of many charitable organisations. She has been involved with The International Year of the Child, World Association of Children's Friends, UNICEF, the Ballet society of Monaco, The Monaco Scouts and the Monaco Philharmonic Orchestra. After the death of her mother Princess Grace in 1982, the 25 year old princess became the first lady of Monaco and took on many duties that would have been given to the Princess of Monaco. When her father passed way in April 2005 Caroline became once again Heiress Presumptive of Monaco. This changed in 2014 when her brother Prince Albert II had twins and now Caroline is 3rd in line to the throne of Monaco.
Princess Caroline has been married three times, the first was to a banker named Philippe Junot on June 28th 1978. The couple divorced, with no children on 9th October 1980. On December 29th 1983 Princess Caroline married Stefano Casiraghi, they had 3 children together;
1). Andrea Casiraghi (8th June 1984)
2). Charlotte Casiraghi (3rd August 1986)
3). Pierre Casiraghi (5th September 1987)
Sadly on 3rd October 1990 Stefano Casiraghi died in a power boat racing accident leaving Caroline to raise three children under the age of ten by herself.
On 23rd January 1999 Princess Caroline married for the 3rd and final time to Prince Ernst August of Hanover, Duke of Brunswick. Ernst August is the head of the defunct house of Hanover. Caroline gained the title Princess of Hanover which is regularly used for her rather than Princess of Monaco as Princess of Hanover is considered higher ranked. Upon their marriage Caroline gained two stepsons;
1). Prince Ernst August (19th July 1983)
2). Prince Christian (1st June 1985)
Princess Caroline and Prince Ernst August of Hanover have one daughter together;
1). Princess of Hanover (20th July 1999)
From her two eldest children Caroline has three grandchildren; Sasha and India Casiraghi (Andrea's children with his wife Tatiana) and Raphael Elmaleh (Charlotte's son).
