Princess Charlene of Monaco


Princess Charlene is the wife of Prince Albert II of Monaco & is Princess Consort of Monaco. Charlene was born as Charlene Lynette Wittstock on 25th January 1978 in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Charlene's parents are Michael & Lynette and she has two younger brothers Gareth and Sean.

Charlene spent her younger years in Rhodesia but moved to South Africa when she was 11. Charlene attended school in Johannesburg until the age of 13. Charlene was then home schooled so she could focus on her swimming career.

In 1999 at the age of 21 won three gold medals & a silver at the All-Africa games. Charlene also represented South Africa at The Commonwealth Games in 1998 (20yrs) & 2002 (24yrs) where she won a silver medal. Charlene went to the Sydney 2000 Olympics and was part of the South African 4x100m Medley but they placed 5th. Charlene also worked as a swimming coach in Pretoria & Durban.

Charlene met Prince Albert II in 2000 at a swimming event in Monaco. They became engaged in 2010 and married in a civil ceremony on July 1st 2011 and a religious wedding the next day. On December 10th 2014 Princess Charlene gave birth to twins, Princess Gabriella & Prince Jacques.

Since becoming Princess of Monaco Charlene has taken on many roles. Just before her marriage she became a global ambassador for the Special Olympics. Charlene helps to raise money for the Red Cross and is heavily involved in work to fight AIDS.
