Queen Maxima of The Netherlands
Queen Maxima of The Netherlands is married to King Willem-Alexander, the current monarch of The Netherlands. She was born in Zorreguieta Cerruti on 17th May 1971 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Maxima is the daughter of Jorge Zorreguieta and his second wife Maria del Carmen Cerruti Carricart. Maxima has many siblings, two brothers, a sister and three half sisters from her father's first marriage.
Maxima attended a bilingual school in Buenos Aires, Northlands School. She then went on to study Economics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. She did a Masters degree in the United States. Maxima later went on to work in finance in Argentina, New York and Brussels. On the side Maxima worked as an English and Math teacher.
In 1999 on a holiday in Spain Maxima met the future King of The Netherlands. She did not know who he was at the time, and thought he was joking when he told her the truth. Willem-Alexander and Maxima got engaged on March 30th 2001. They married on February 2nd 2002. Maxima's parents did not attend the wedding as her father was involved in the Argentinian dictatorship, and her mother refused to attend without her father. Willem-Alexander and Maxima have three daughters;
1). Princess Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange (7th December 2003)
2). Princess Alexia (26th June 2005)
3). Princess Ariane (10th April 2007)
As Queen of The Netherlands Maxima has many duties. She has a particular focus on the integration of migrants, she sits on The Dutch Council of State and she is an open supporter of LGBTI rights. With her background in finance Queen Maxima is also the UN Secretary General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.
