Tiara Time!!!

I couldn't wait until Fashion Friday for this, I was sooo excited!!! For those of you who've read my 'what's happening' post from Friday 27th November, you would have noticed that Queen Elizabeth II along with her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall attended a gala dinner in Malta for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Queen Elizabeth and Camilla got all dressed up for the event, and they wore...tiaras!!! I just love tiaras and since I've started this blog nobody has worn one. Now they have!!! Eventually I'd really like to start a special page/section for tiaras because they often have history and they're just really, really beautiful. So I'm that excited I couldn't wait for this coming Friday to discuss the tiaras. I'm going to look at them now instead. Not in great detail, just a quick look.

I think whenever I see a royal wearing a tiara I'll do a special 'Tiara Time' post instead of waiting for Fashion Fridays.

Camilla wore the Greville Tiara. As you can see it's quite a big piece, meant to make a statement. I'm not sure whether I think it suits her or not. It sits well on her hair but I feel it's too big for her head.

Queen Elizabeth is wearing The Vladimir Tiara. You can change the stones and she's put in emeralds for this occasion. She's also paired it with a matching necklace. I think this is just right for a gala dinner. It sparkles but it doesn't stand out too much. As a queen she wants to show the other heads of state that she's approachable. I think this tiara does that.

Sporty Sundays Series 2 (Equestrian)

In Ancient Rome the way to tell if someone was wealthy or not was whether they owned a horse. The same idea has continued throughout history. Horse riding and in particular equestrian sports at the Olympics has long been a passion of royals around the world. The most famous of course bring The British royal family with members such as Princess Anne, The Princess Royal and her daughter Zara Phillips winning medals.

Though other members of their family also enjoy horse riding, though perhaps not at such an elite level.

And they really start teaching them quite young. Here's Queen Elizabeth eldest Great Granddaughter, Savannah Phillips taken earlier this year (Princess Anne's granddaughter via Peter & Autumn). She's about four years old in this picture.

Of course members of other royal family members also enjoy the sport, and even compete such as Infanta Elena of Spain, daughter of former King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. Elena's daughter Victoria has also taken to the sport. Princess Haya of Jordan and Dubai the daughter of the late King Hussein, half-sister of King Abdullah II and Junior wife of the Emir of Dubai also rides competitively.

Pretty much all royals love equestrian;

Sibling Saturday Series 3 (Elizabeth's Children)

Keeping in theme with Wedding Wednesday where we took a look at the four children of Queen Elizabeth II & Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Their children are, of course Prince Charles of Wales, Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. What is interesting about these siblings is that the older two (Charles & Anne) were born before Elizabeth became Queen of the United Kingdom. Her younger two were born afterwards. It's not very often that we see a child born during the reign of a parent, even less so of course the child of a Queen!

We often hear rumours about in-fighting amongst the British royal family. They are siblings though, and have a lot of special moments. They've had to support each other and their children through some tough times. Today they each have their own families. Between the four of them Elizabeth & Philip have 8 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. So without further ado, Elizabeth's children:

Fashion Fridays 20th-26th November

Well we haven't done Fashion Fridays in a while. Since I live in Australia and I update before any fashion comes out on the Friday that I'm writing (by time there are pictures it's Saturday here) I will be taking it from the previous Friday till Thursday. So this week we'll be looking at what the royals wore from the 20-26th of November.

There were quite a few outfits this week, our star was Queen Letizia of Spain who dazzled with four different outfits:

This is what the Queen wore on 20th November to meet with King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan. I love how she's made a simple grey dress, which on anybody else might look plain really stand out. The black belt in the middle and the black heels really add to it. Her handbag is professional and works with the rest of the outfit.

Queen Letizia may be rich but she's also economical. On Monday the 23rd the Queen had two functions to attend and chose to wear the same outfit for both. The only thing she changes is her shirt. I like the outfit and her shes are so cute. The only change I would make is, because she is wearing so much red already I would not wear red lipstick. I also prefer the shirt in the first picture. The shirt in the second looks slightly messy. I do like her hand bag though, whit was a good choice to match the shirt.

The 24th of November brought us this stunning outfit. Here the Queen attends the anniversary of a newspaper. Her curled hair looks great and the black suit is really appropriate for a newspaper anniversary. It's casual, yet formal all at once. This is my FAVOURITE Queen Letizia outfit for this week.

Finally on November 25th the Queen of Spain wore this outfit to an awards ceremony. It's nice but it makes me think she's coming back from a funeral. I think the earrings are a great, the black really breaks from the rest of the gold. The lipstick stands out as well, maybe a lighter shade.

What did everyone else where this week, let's take a look:

Queen Rania of Jordan wore this outfit when she met with King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain on November 20th. I'm not really a fan to be honest, she looks like shes going to a costume party. I like bits & pieces of the dress, just not together. The shoes seem out of place as well, though on their own I think they're beautiful.

Queen Elizabeth II wore this to a church ceremony on the 24th. Her flat shoes are cute and of course appropriate for someone of her age. The outfit is very well put together. The hat isn't to out there and the gloves match with everything else. I might've gone with a smaller hand bag, but it still works. Queen Elizabeth has got the granny fashion perfect!

Birgitte, The Duchess of Gloucester wore this cute black dress to a charity swim and a gala dinner. It's a beautiful dress and I think a good choice for the event and for her age.

Queen Silvia of Sweden wore this to the Global Child Forum on Thursday. It's a beautiful colour and says exactly what it should, let's do business, we've got something serious happening here. Her make up is really subtle and it looks great. The scarf really adds some vavoom to the outfit and the black shoes and little black bag are an excellent choice.

Princess Madeleine got it wrong. Here she is attending he Global Child Forum with her mother and sister-in-law. She looks like either a magician or someone going to a rodeo. I mean the colours are all right, the black and white, the outfit is just wrong though. The bag is way to big, she doesn't need a carry on bag for this! Sorry Princess Madeleine you struck out.

Princess Sofia, daughter-in-law of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden is on the far right. The top is a nice colour but I'm not a fan of that big fold. She's possibly wearing something like that due to her pregnancy, she's due in April. However The pants are far to short and don't really match. The shoes are okay, but we're seeing to much of them. I do like her make up, her face is very pretty. The little purse is a great idea. Just a few tweaks, and she'd have a terrific outfit.

Now for my pick of the week. Of all these outfits we've seen this week my favourite has to be....

That's right, Queen Silvia of Sweden. As much as I love the outfits of Queen Letizia this one just stands out. The colour is amazing and the Queen really looks nice. Congrats Queen Silvia!!!
