Japan

The Japanese monarchy or as it is more properly known, The Chrysanthemum Throne is perhaps the oldest continuous monarchy in the world. The throne is passed down through the male descendants. However in recent years there have been questions on whether this should be changed. Currently the whole Japanese monarchy rests on the shoulders of one little boy, Prince Hisahito of Akishino.

The current line of succession looks like this:

Reigning Monarch: Emperor Naruhito of Japan married to Empress Masako of Japan

Heir Apparent: Fumihito, Crown Prince of Japan married to Kiko, Crown Princess of Japan
 (Brother of Emperor)

2). Prince Hisahito of Akishino (Nephew of Emperor)

3). Masahito, Prince Hitachi married to Hanako, Princess Hitcahi (Uncle of Emperor)

Other

Akihito of Japan (former emperor, father of current emperor)

Michiko of Japan (former empress, mother of current emperor)

Deceased

Takahito, Prince Mikasa married to Yuriko, Princess Mikasa (Uncle of Emperor)
