Meghan's mother was a social worker, but now works as a yoga instructor. Her father used to work on television sets as a director of photography and lighting. The Duchess of Sussex is biracial as her mother is African-American, with family that dates back to the slave trade in Georgia. Meghan has two siblings, Samantha and Thomas Jr, however they are seventeen and fifteen years older than her and therefore did not grow up together. Unfortunately Meghan's parents divorced when she was six years old.

Meghan Markle began her education at Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse. She then attended Immaculate Heart High School, where she graduated. It was during her childhood that Meghan first stood up for her beliefs. When she was eleven she saw a commercial she viewed as sexist and wrote a complaint letter, her letter worked and the advertisement was changed.

After graduation Meghan went to Northwestern University in Illinois. She became a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. During her time at university Markle completed an internship at the US embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Meghan graduated in 2003 with a double major in theatre and international studies.

After graduation Meghan began to try her hand at making a career as an actress. She supported herself between jobs by working as a freelance calligrapher. The future Duchess started with small roles on various TV shows, modelling work and as a brief case girl on Deal or No Deal. In 2011 she landed roles in films and continued to work on TV in minor roles. Meghan's big break was in mid-2011 where she landed a lead role as the paralegal Rachel Zane on the hit legal show, Suits. Meghan worked on Suits until 2017 when she left to marry Prince Harry.

During her time as an actress Meghan was active on Twitter and Instagram. She used these platforms to speak about issues close to her heart. In 2011 Meghan married fellow actor Trevor Engelson, but they divorced in 2013. In 2016 Meghan met Prince Harry of Wales and they began a relationship. The couple announced their engagement in November 2017 and in May the following year they were married. Meghan became a member of the British Royal Family and took on the title of Duchess of Sussex. Meghan's marriage was a milestone for the Royal Family as it was the first time an African-American has married into the Royal Family. On May 6th 2019 Harry and Meghan welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Before joining the Royal Family Meghan was heavily involved in politics. During the 2016 Presidential elections she actively supported Hillary Clinton. She also spoke out against Brexit and has spoken in favour of authors such as Noam Chomsky. Upon her marriage to Prince Harry she has had to become politically neutral. Since becoming Duchess of Sussex Meghan has been involved with AIDS work and commemorated International Women's Day with Prince Harry. Meghan has also represented The Commonwealth at various events and engaged in tours of Northern Ireland, Australia, Morocco, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.
