Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, Duke of Varmland was born in Stockholm, Sweden on May 13th 1979. His parents are King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. He was raised alongside his older sister Crown Princess Victoria and his younger sister Princess Madeleine. For seven months after his birth he was the heir apparent to the Swedish throne until Sweden changed the laws of succession and his older sister became first in line. Today Prince Carl Philip is 4th in line to the Swedish throne after his sister, niece and nephew.
Through his father's paternal grandmother Prince Carl Philip is related to the British and Danish royal families. As a student the Prince attended a variety of schools in Sweden, as well as attending boarding school at the Kent School in England. After high school Prince Carl Philip studied graphic design at the Rhode Island School of design in the USA for a year. He then returned to Sweden and completed a degree in Agricultural and Rural management.
The Prince completed military training in an artillery regiment as a boat commander. Between 2007 and 2008 he attended the Swedish National Defence College. He reached the rank of major. In 2003 Prince Carl Philip returned to studying graphic design.
Prince Carl Philip enjoys outdoors activities and as a child participated in Scouts. His favourite sports include soccer, skiing, sailing and swimming. In 2003 he took part and completed the longest cross country ski event in the world. He also enjoys car racing.
On June 13th 2015 Prince Carl Philip married Sofia Hellqvist, a former glamour model. They have two children together;
1). Prince Alexander, Duke of Sodermanland (19th April 2016)
2). Prince Gabriel, Duke of Dalarna (31st August 2017)
