Princess Sofia of Sweden, Duchess of Varmland



Princess Sofia of Sweden was born on December 6th 1984 as Sofia Hellqvist. Sofia was born in Sweden to Erik Hellqvist and Marie Rotman. She grew up alongside her two sisters, Linda (1982) and Sara (1988).

Sofia attended a Montessori school in Sweden before studying at Alvdal School. After finishing school she joined the arts program at Vansboro Education Centre. Sofia began modelling for men's magazines in 2004. A year later she moved to New York to study accounting with a focus on business development. During her time in New York Sofia became a certified yoga instructor and taught classes.

Sofia returned to Sweden and began attending the University of Stockholm. It was here that she studied global ethics, child and youth science, children's communication and the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child. During this period Sofia worked as both a waitress and a glamour model.

Sofia began dating Prince Carl Philip, the only son of the King and Queen of Sweden in 2010. The couple married on June 13th 2015. Sofia and Carl Philip have two sons together, Prince Alexander (19th April 2016) and Prince Gabriel (31st August 2017).

Since marrying into the royal family Sofia has taken on many royal duties and supports a number of charities. She is the co-founder of the non-profit organisation 'Project Playground' which assists under privileged children in South Africa.
